Family Trust by Amanda Brown
“A guardian,” she said, thinking fast, “is like a fairy godmother. I’m specially picked just for you, Emily. By—by the fairies,” she added, thinking of her storybooks. “I’ll always take care of you. And so will Eddie,” she added quickly.
Warnings: Mild swearing
Synopsis(from the back of the book):
Firmly planted on the Wall Street fast track to success, Becca Reinhart has no desire to marry and raise a family. Ditto Edward Kirkland, a charming playboy who has never known what it means to work for a living, and hopes never to find out. Enter Emily, who becomes Becca and Edward's common denominator when a quirk of fate gives them joint custody of the precocious little girl. Suddenly, two people who have never met find themselves sharing the trials and tribulations of domestic life as they navigate the rocky shoals of parenthood, from naptime to play dates to pre-school admissions. And amid the daily demands of raising a young child, Becca and Edward discover something else: They're made for each other.
My thoughts:
I remember reading Legally Blonde shortly after the movie came out. I don’t remember much, other than being disappointed. But I saw this book at the store and thought, Why not?
So worth it.
The story is definitely something that wouldn’t happen in real life. A couple, who are not married, have a daughter—Emily. They both die in a tragic accident and each of them has left Emily to the care of their best friends—Becca and Edward. Becca and Edward must then learn how to take care of their new “daughter” as well as become accustomed to the different parenting styles of one another. Of course, as one expects, they begin to fall in love. But the obstacles are not only Becca and Edward, but also Edward’s mother and pesky childhood girlfriend (who just won’t go away).
It’s a charming rainy day, cuddle up and love the romance type of book. I was charmed by Edward (really… I don’t have a fascination with the name. It just seems like EVERY good character is Edward. This should really be changed) and thought Becca would be my new best friend. Emily steals every scene that she is in.
I do have to say that the premise is a bit unbelievable, and the fact that Becca and Edward have never met before. It’s really kind of a fluffy book, but every once in awhile it is so necessary to turn off the brain and enjoy the ride.
Recommendation: Borrow or buy. Depends on how much money you have and how much you like a good chick-lit.
